Whitley’s brand new skatepark has opened at John Rabson’s Recreation Ground for skateboard, BMX and scooter enthusiasts, both young and old to enjoy. It includes a bowled miniramp, quarterpipes, flatbanks and volcano.
The new £375,000 facility, paid for through a combination of Community Infrastructure Levy and Council capital funding, offers a variety of features designed to provide a safe and fun environment for all ages and skill levels. The design was directly influenced by feedback from local riders providing an inclusive space for beginners and seasoned skaters alike.
The new skatepark features:
-Bowled miniramp, with curves designed to progress the riders’ skills towards achieving a figure of eight flowline
-Split-level street area including an inline hip, driveway, bank-to-curb with quarterpipes and banks at each end of the park
-Super-sized rail and grind ledge to lock in for long grinds
-Designated seating area allowing for social interaction between the spectating friends and family
Grand Opening Event: The official grand opening celebration which will be attended by Mayor of Reading, Cllr Mpofu Coles, will take place on Wednesday 30 July 12:00-16:00 at John Rabson Recreation Ground. The event will feature Skateboard, BMX and Scooter competitions for all ages and abilities, professional rider demos, prizes, music, food and refreshments.
