Thinking of holding a street party? Free road closures available this summer

Communities across Reading are invited to host street parties to celebrate the Jubilee without having to pay the usual road closure fees. 2022 marks the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – when she becomes the first British monarch to reign for 70 years. And to mark this auspicious milestone, residents can now apply to host a street party during the special bank holiday in June – the Jubilee weekend – 2 to 5 June 2022. Central Reading locals take action to build community

The newly-constituted Victoria Park Community Group signed on the dotted line last week and celebrated their community coming together to become a voice for the area. Residents in the area surrounding Great Knolly’s Street and George Street in central Reading first met online during the lockdown of 2020 after the posting of a local community survey of Victoria Park by resident and now Chair of the group, Maria Trevis. Reading’s rewilding to extend into 2022

Reading Borough Council have announced plans to further extend the progressive rewilding scheme, following another successful year. The scheme aims to restore, reclaim and protect natural habitats and native species on highway verges and in parks to address the climate emergency, by enhancing biodiversity and green links across the town. The latest end of season review shows the experiment worked in most areas and public feedback and support for the scheme continued to be overwhelmingly positive. Free places for 8-16 year olds to join RABBLE Young Company

RABBLE Theatre are a local theatre company which delivers high-quality professional theatre and provides an extensive range of outreach and educational work to young people and the community. RABBLE runs a Young Company for young people aged 8-16, which takes place every Saturday morning, term time. The Young Company provides young people with the opportunity to engage with a professional theatre company and learn from industry professionals, develop skills in playwriting and theatre-making. The invitation is to design a poster that inspires and informs and shows your enthusiasm and interest for the archaeology of Berkshire: -A selection of the entries will also be displayed by the Society at its events and meetings and used in its publicity material. -This competition will include sites in those parts of Berkshire which became parts of other counties in 1974. -The deadline is 30 April 2022.
