News from Brighter Futures for Children
by Ciaran Delaney, Holiday Activity Fund Coordinator
The Department for Education (DfE) is providing funding to local authorities to coordinate a programme that provides healthy food and enriching activities to disadvantaged children during the 2021 Easter, Summer and Christmas Holidays. More information about the scheme can be found here: Holiday activities and food programme 2021 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Brighter Futures for Children is coordinating the programme locally and we are looking to work with a range of providers including community-based organisations, existing holiday care providers, schools, childminders, sports coaching, volunteer organisations, creative and performing arts providers and many others.
There will be an opportunity for providers to bid for funding to support the delivery of holiday schemes. We are looking to widen provision across the borough for the summer holidays and award funds to providers who can prove they can deliver:
-High quality enriching activities which includes at least one hour of physical activity
-A healthy nutritious meal
-Skills, activities/classes aimed at helping children and their parents to make healthy and affordable choices
-A positive legacy that lasts longer than the experience
