Get Online Reading has made it through to the public voting stage of the Aviva Community Fund – vote today!
Reading is a town of two halves when it comes to technology – on the one hand, there is a highly IT literate workforce and on the other, there are areas of deprivation where there are high levels of digital exclusion.
Get Online Reading works to increase digital inclusion by recruiting tech-savvy volunteers who provide one-to-one support at drop-in sessions, for residents who may not have the skills or opportunity to access the internet and digital services.
The sessions run every week at Reading’s Central Library, branch libraries and community venues across the town. Since the project started in 2015, they have run over 1,000 drop-in sessions at 16 venues and helped more than 3,000 visitors to make use of a computer, smartphone or tablet. The project has more than 30 volunteers who give more than 1,500 hours of their time each year.
You can support Get Online Reading by voting for it in the Aviva Community Fund (Website at www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk) – it only takes a few minutes to register and cast your 10 votes and it may help this valuable project to continue its work for another year. The deadline for voting is Tuesday 20 November.
