News from: Reading Voluntary Action (RVA)
RVA has been asked to undertake a review and consult with organisations interested in the building, which has been empty since 2006. The Council also agreed that any future plans for the building will fully recognise the cultural and social significance for the local community of the iconic former Central Club mural on London Street, and its position as a high profile local landmark in Reading.
We would like to hear from organisations or groups across Reading who have the capacity to potentially take a lead or partnership role in moving the project forward and bringing the building back into community use.
RVA’s review will look at activities and services organisations could provide from the centre, how they might co-exist and their benefits. Finance options and possible business models will be a key part of the review, including the possibility of using social investment. The review will consider all options put forward which meet the Council’s criteria of the building acting as a centre to tackle inequality and promoting social justice.
Groups who are interested can contact the RVA by email using firstname.lastname@example.org or phone on 01189 574123
