Beat the Street will return to Reading from 29 April to 24 June!
Beat the Street is a cycling and walking game. People tap cards (like oyster cards) on Beat Boxes placed on lamp posts throughout Reading, Burghfield, Mortimer, Pangbourne and Theale and registers their activity. Cards must be taped at another box to records a journey, earn points for the individual player and earn points for the team. The overall challenge is to walk 300,000 miles on a space race!
If we complete the 8 week challenge and travel 300,000 miles, funds will be donated to Royal Berkshire Cancer Centre.
The scheme, funded by both NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups and Reading Borough Council, aims to get 22,000 people physically active.
15,074 people in and around Reading took part in the Beat the Street initiative last spring. They travelled almost a quarter of a million miles – more than the distance between the earth and the moon.
There will be daily prizes for participants and 3 cash prizes of up to £1000 for the teams that travel the furthest.
