News from: Reading City of Sanctuary
Exciting news! Reading is now officially a City of Sanctuary and we are proud to extend the welcome of our town to people who come here seeking safety. We want those fleeing violence and persecution in their own countries to feel safe and secure here.
We are building a network of businesses, organisations and individuals who, by working together, will help to build a culture of hospitality and welcome throughout Reading. Our supporters includes Thames Valley Police, Chalkboard Café, The Global Café, Reading Community Learning Centre, Reading Muslim Council, Sikh Community and many more.
Last Wednesday the national City of Sanctuary umbrella organisation held their annual conference and AGM in Reading, welcoming Cities of Sanctuary (CoSs) from across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It was a great opportunity to hear how CoSs are developing across the country – schools, universities, libraries are all offering practical ways to support people seeking sanctuary.
