Many older people and adults with care and support needs (because illness or disability) prefer to directly employ their own carers – known as Personal Assistants. Personal Assistants provide support to enable individuals to maintain independence in their lives.
If you’re interested in becoming a Personal Assistant, you can join RBC’s Personal Assistant Register. As all social care clients looking for a Personal Assistant will first look for vacancies on the register, you’ll be first in line when employment opportunities arise. Other benefits include:

The work is extremely varied, but depending on the needs of the client, tasks can include:
-Personal care (help with washing, dressing etc)
-Help with meals
-Help with household tasks and errands
-Support to get out and about to take part in activities
You don’t need any special qualifications for this role, and RBC offers free online training. Some face to face training, including manual handling, may also be available upon request. If you like working with people, have a calm, flexible approach and good communication skills this could be the job for you.
