Kerbside recycling of small electrical goods on its way

Reading Borough Council is planning a six-month trial for recycling collections small electrical appliances like toasters and hair dryers

It will be introduced in September on two recycling rounds to begin with – taking in about 15,600 properties in Reading – and rolled out borough-wide next April.

Residents on the chosen rounds will be able to put out one carrier bag of small electrical item on top of their red bin on recycling collection day.

The collected items will then be put in “cages” installed on the refuse lorries and taken by the crews to the Smallmead Recycling Centre in Whitley for reprocessing.
