The council’s free green bin service is being replaced next month with the new paid-for collection scheme, which has two charges depending on how much garden rubbish you want removed.
Households who pay a £50 annual charge will be entitled to the collection of up to two green bins. It will cost £15 for the green bag kerbside collection. From April 1 only green bins and bags bearing the new scheme’s stickers will be collected.
So far 5,600 households had signed up as of early March. To sign up for the garden waste collection scheme go to www.reading.gov.uk/garden-waste or telephone 0118 937 2055.
