BG Community Involvement Group is offering a new funding opportunity. Funds will focus on projects supporting sustainable community development and skills, and knowledge transfer.
Preference will be given to projects that aim to strengthen communities and support disadvantaged groups through areas such as social inclusion and integration, crime reduction, skills development for unemployed people not in education or training (NEETs), etc.
BG offers two types of funding at present: *Quarterly online portal vote – a pool of £3,000; BG then chooses three charities to be put forward and their employees choose which charity appeals to them the most. At the end of the portal vote the money is divided according to the percentage of the vote. *Ad-hoc funding requests for a specific project that a charity is running in Reading which needs a specific amount of money.
Projects must be based within RG postcode area only. Local rather than national charities will be supported. Voluntary and community groups can also apply.
School projects will only be funded when they can be demonstrated to fall within the guidelines. In general they will be guided to use the BG Group ‘matched giving’ facility for fund raising.
BG does not sponsor individuals or ordinary sports teams looking for funding for equipment, political parties, or organisations that restrict participation in its activities on religious or ethnic grounds.
BG does not send out application forms. Please email or write to the contact. A member of the BG team will be responsible for verifying the authenticity of a proposed project, prior to funding. This may be done via telephone calls, site visit or discussion with BG staff.
