Older People's Day: Live virtual coffee morning and other events

    10:30Online

Live virtual coffee morning at 10:30 am

2020 has been a difficult year for all of us. Coronavirus and lockdown have sadly made it impossible for us to meet with you all to celebrate in person, but we are so excited to welcome you to our brand new online celebration event, being held on video calling platform Zoom! The meeting will run from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 midday.

Join us for a cuppa and a chat. We’d love to see you and hear how you have been getting on! Come and join our virtual celebration of Older People’s Day. Book your place on the live event here.

    Memory project

Normally on 1 October Reading celebrates the United Nations Day of Older People. The aim of the Older People’s Day 2020 Memory Project is to capture a snapshot of this unique time and how it affected the older people of Reading. Using the stories and materials created to make a record of older people’s thoughts, memories and experiences of this time, future generations will understand what was experienced and how it felt. A compilation of the contributions received will be available on www.readingculturelive.co.uk.

    Local services

Reading is a vibrant town with a rich array of local services that support residents, and for Older People’s Day 2020, some of the services have kindly contributed their voice talking about what they offer and how they have been able to continue supporting older people during this pandemic and lockdown. From 1 October, watch the short video on the Reading Live Culture website to find out more about them.

A booklet with the content of the video and information about local services will also be published. If you would like a printed copy, please contact us by emailing opwg@reading.gov.uk or calling 07811 026070.
