Silent Generation – free community performance

    16:00 StartSouth Street Arts Centre

    21 South Street, Reading RG1 4QU

StrikeUp Theatre invite you to attend the free community performance of their debut Arts Council funded show, Silent Generation.

About Silent Generation: The play emerges from interviews with Reading residents born between 1925 and 1945; an era when children should be seen-and-not-heard, and when it often felt dangerous to speak out politically. Now in their 70s, 80s and 90s, are the Silent Generation heard today? With low social integration and little representation across television and social-media platforms, it doesn’t feel like it.

Following 10 months of interviews, Rachel Mary directs the piece with a company of 4 actors (Patricia Loveland, Peter Marinker, Stella Ross and Michael Curran), aged between 68 and 84 years, who bring their shared experience to the performance of the script, beautifully crafted by StrikeUp Associate Joe Marsh.

About the Director: Rachel Mary is an emerging theatre maker with a background in political theatre and physical comedy. She trained at the Antonio Fava Commedia School, Reggio Emilia and with Fourth Monkey Theatre Company (2013-15) and studied with the University of Essex Drama Department (2009-2012), specialising in political theatre.

Since then Rachel has worked as an actor and director in London and the South East, developing her professional practise working alongside established theatre makers and companies.
