Employing Staff: What you need to know

    9:30 - 12:00Reading Voluntary Action

3rd Floor, Reading Central Library, Abbey Square, Reading RG1 3BQ

Employing staff can seem like a tricky business, but it needn’t be. Whether you are employing staff for the first time or you have been doing so for some time, this training will give you an overview of everything you need to know as a voluntary sector employer.

With the added challenges the voluntary sector is facing with funding and the increased risk of redundancies, it is essential that staff and trustees are confident the correct employment procedures are in place to deal with these challenges. It is important to have safeguards in place before taking action in order to best protect the organisation.

We will cover the following areas:

    • The contract of employment
    • Contractor or employee?
    • Employment policies
    • Managing performance
    • When things go wrong: Redundancies and avoiding unfair dismissal
    • Discrimination and harassment

The training will be particularly useful for trustees, committee members and managers of voluntary groups. You will leave with a better knowledge of how to protect your organisation and staff from the pitfalls of employment law.

Tickets are free but do let RVA know if you are unable to attend as places can be used by another voluntary group.
