    Reading Trustee Network

    18:00 - 20:00Reading Voluntary Action

Third Floor, Reading Central Library, Abbey Square, Reading RG1 3BQ

The Reading Trustee Network returns in the New Year. The network will be a great chance to share ideas with your fellow trustees and charity managers and learn about topics relevant to the sector. Our trustees come from a large range of backgrounds and have a wealth of experience which is waiting to be shared.

    The presentation topics will be:

‘What’s Your Story?’ Effective Communication for Organisations (Sarah Browning, Communication Specialist, Browning York Ltd)

When it comes to communication for your charity, it is very easy to get caught up in the workings of your Twitter account or the wording of your supporter newsletter. But as trustees you have a more strategic role to play and effective communication can be a significant factor in the success of your charity in achieving its mission. Sarah will be giving a taster of some key strategies to get you thinking about telling your story effectively and sharing highlights of where this has been done very well. Sarah is also a local Trustee in Reading and understands the needs and challenges of the sector.

Employing Staff – what you need to know (Asim Munir, Employment Solicitor, Dexter Montague LLP)

Has your charity thought about employing skilled staff to deliver part of your service but you’re not quite sure about the difference between employees and workers? Then there’s tax and national insurance considerations, not to mention working out annual leave entitlements. Asim is a local employment law Solicitor in Reading and will give a whistle-stop tour on employing staff and how to avoid falling foul of your key responsibilities. Remember, as Trustees of the charity, you are employers in law, so don’t miss out on these key tips!

The event will be appropriate for trustees and charity managers so come along and get involved in the network. Tea, coffee and nibbles will be provided, with an opportunity for networking with other Trustees in Reading. Arrival and refreshments from 18:00, with a 18:30 start for the presentations.

The event is free, but please reserve your place in advance at www.eventbrite.co.uk or through the link below.
