Local charity ABC to Read has been given a new lease of life thanks to the Church of St Mark in Reading. The charity were facing eviction from their current office at Bridge Hall in Reading due to council funding cuts.
Rev. Nicholas Cheeseman of The Church of St Mark said: “Having heard about the great work that ABC to Read do in our local community, I was more than happy to offer them our Church Hall as their new home.”
Marcia Rowlinson, ABC to Read Chief Operating and Development Officer, said: “It’s so important for us to have a secure base. It enables us to do the work we do to an incredibly high standard so we are very thankful to the Church of St Mark for their generosity in helping us out.”
ABC to Read have been working with volunteer mentors for over a decade to support youngsters who are struggling with their reading. The primary school children selected to work with an ABC to Read mentor are identified by the schools as those children who would benefit most from one-to-one support.
The charity’s new address from 18 January is: ABC to Read, St Mark’s Church Hall, 94 Cranbury Road, Reading RG30 2TA.
There are still spaces available for any new volunteers to take part in training in February 2016. For more information about training days or joining the scheme as a school, contact: email@example.com
