Funding for local organisations working in the community

This month’s Funding Digest from Reading Borough Council features two funding programmes targeted specifically at local groups working in the community in Berkshire.

A Life Less Lonely Fund: Local community groups are invited to apply for funding from Berkshire Community Foundation’s ‘A Life Less Lonely’ Fund which will award grants of up to £10,000 for minor projects and up to £20,000 for major projects which address the effects of loneliness and isolation within Berkshire. The deadline for Expressions of Interest is 7 October 2016 with those organisations/projects which meet with the criteria most strongly being invited to fill in an online application form. Shortlisted groups will be notified in December to present their project to a ‘Dragons Den’ type panel on 30 January 2017.

Comic Relief Local Communities Programme: This Comic Relief programme aims to empower local people, enabling them to create lasting change in their communities. Projects should be run by people directly affected by the issues they are dealing with and priority will be given to small, locally based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community. Under this programme organisations can apply for funding of between £1,000 and £10,000 to, for example: improve people’s life skills, education, employability & enterprise; provide people with opportunities to access local services, achieve greater social justice and reduce inequality, exclusion and disadvantage; and advance people’s physical & mental health, wellbeing & safety. This next deadline for applications is 30 October 2016.
